CHRISTMAS DAY
The memories I have
of this place
where time was spent
being a child
thinking
dreaming
laughing
crying
will never leave my heart.
To know that someday
this place
will no longer be mine
to visit
hurts my heart.
Life changes quickly
Time passes without paying attention
memories linger
taking me back
to a
youthful time.
Desiring
time to slow down
I will
relish and appreciate
any moments now
while i can
***
Charcuterie boards were made
and prepared for giving
packages were wrapped
delicious food was prepared
and devoured
DANGIT
I FORGOT TO TAKE A PIC OF THE FOOD BUT....
this is the recipe i made
and it was delicious!
everyone loved it!
it was easy!
And all of the prep is done the night before.
CREME BRULEE FRENCH TOAST
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 loaf Challah bread
5 large eggs
1 1/2 cups half and half
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon Grand Marnier
1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions
In a small heavy saucepan combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup. Melt over moderate heat, stirring until smooth. Pour into a 9 x 13 baking dish.
Cut Challah bread into 1 inch slices, discard ends. Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish squeezing them slightly to fit. You most likely will have a few extra slices of bread.
In a bowl whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla, Grand Marnier and salt until combined well and pour evenly over bread. Cover pan with saran wrap. Chill overnight in fridge.
The following morning, remove pan from fridge. Allow french toast to return to room temperature. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake uncovered 35 - 40 minutes until golden brown.
Tips: I added a handful of chopped pecans on top of caramel sauce before layering bread. I also have a bit larger baking dish than a 9 x 13. I got mine at Walmart - an Anchor Hocking measuring 15.00 x 11.25 x 3.50 inches
So I doubled the entire recipe and was able to fit it all in this pan. Of the three batches I made the doubled recipe in the larger pan was the best.
Another moment - I hope to someday look back on with fond memory.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
